Briefing on the preparations Father Joseph Almeida, who is in charge of the province of Guwahati in North-East said, ``This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for all of us to see the sacred remains of Don Bosco whose life revolutionized humankind`s attitude towards the poor and abandoned.`` ``The purpose is to bring the past and present together for education and above all the awareness for commitment towards society as spiritual values are declining due to growing materialism,`` he further added.
Don Bosco missionaries initiated their service in North-East India from 1922. Today, along with other sister groups of the Don Bosco family, they offer a variety of services to the people of North-East particularly in education, technical education, culture and language promotion, grassroots level development and welfare of street urchins.
``This is one of the rarest moments of our life when everyone can pay homage to the sacred relics or the mortal remains of Don Bosco, a saint who has shown numerous eyes the light of kindness and servitude. (Fr. Joseph Almeida)
``Most interesting part of the ceremony is that it will be organized in the traditional Assamese style. Don Bosco and Srimanta Shankardeva shared common views on humanism and preached togetherness and belief in the almighty. This would also be a learning experience for each one of us.
