Net result zero' for OJEE aspirants

BHUBANESWAR: Even as Orissa JEE officials declared the names of the toppers at 1 pm on Thursday, the rest of the aspirants had to spend over two hours in agony to know their fate. Reason: The online results, which were scheduled to be displayed simultaneously at www.odishajee.com from 1 pm, were finally posted at 3.30 pm.

"I was frequently refreshing the website. It was showing a message that results would be available soon. But there was nothing," said Sudipta Kumar, a medical aspirant.

Another medical aspirant, B C Bhoi, said it was frustrating to wait for two-and-a-half hours beyond the scheduled time for the online declaration of results. "The OJEE authorities should learn from IIT-JEE, which posted the results online at the exact promised time yesterday," he added. Similar was the reaction of several parents. "It shows the inefficiency of BPUT in conducting the exams," said Roshan Patel, father of an aspirant.

Educationists said the "unwarranted delay" could have been avoided. "Those at the helm of affairs could have done a better planning to avoid such a delay. If they can't publish the results online without hitch, how can they even think of web-based counseling," said R N Panda, former principal of BJB College and principal of Institute of Higher Secondary Education.

On their part, the JEE authorities attributed the delay to slowing down of the server during uploading the results. "We had asked the concerned officials to upload the results at 1pm. But by then thousands of aspirants had logged on to the site and the traffic was so huge that the server got slowed down. The uploading took over two hours," said OJEE committee chairman L N Panda.

Panda said the traffic to the website was more than 30,000 per second. "It was a minor problem. No way does it reflect on the efficiency of the JEE committee or BPUT. We avoided uploading the results before 1 pm to ensure that they were not available online before the official announcement," Panda said.
