More students attempt GCET a second time

"Interest in engineering courses is rising. The main reason for rise in GCET applicants is the increase in students appearing for the test during the second consecutive year to improve their score. Students appear the second time if they have not got admissions to a stream of their choice or if they get admissions to a private engineering college and want to get into Goa Engineering College. So, they try In 2011, 3,527 students appeared for GCET as against 3,425 students that registered for the test in 2010. 

The numbers are a significant rise from the 3,155 students that registered in 2009, which was again higher than the previous year when 2,935 students appeared for the exam in 2008. 

Admissions to medicine, engineering, dentistry, pharmacy and homeopathy courses in Goa take place based on the merit list drawn as per students' GCET scores. 

The GCET merit list this year is expected to be ready by mid-June.
