Orissa Government to start kidney transplant facility at SCB Medical College

The State Government has decided to start kidney transplant facility at the Government-run SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack, the State’s premier healthcare institution. Kidney transplant in private hospitals costs huge amounts of money, which is beyond the reach of common man.
In this regard Minister of Health & Family Welfare Prasanna Acharya directs the department officials to speed up the process. He held review meeting. Secretary Health & Family Welfare Anu Garg, Director of Medical Education & Training Dr PK Das, Superintendent of SCB Hospital Dr Bhuban Maharana and other officials attended the meeting.
The SCB Medical College Hospital would have the facility, for which it would take the support of PGI Chandigarh. PGI Transplant Surgeon Dr M Mintz would perform operation every month with the support of the staff of the SCB staff, who would be provided training to handle the sensitive cases.
Dr Mintz, who is a topnotch expert in kidney transplant, has agreed for the initiative of the Odisha Government. In India, only about 8,000 kidney transplants are done every year against the requirement of 1 lakh.
