It can be termed as the get-together of 'Remarkable' Indonesia with 'Incredible' India in 'Vibrant' Gujarat. A delegation from Indonesia has been camping in Gujarat since the last two days to discuss means to increase investment from Gujarat.
On Thursday, the ambassador of Indonesia Lt Gen (Ret) Andi M Ghalib addressed the media and sought increased trade and investment along with educational exchange with Gujarat. Looking at the opportunity of building a partnership between two Asian giants, India and Indonesia, the delegation met Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi along with trade bodies.
"They pledged participation of businessmen from the state in a CEO summit in Bali scheduled to be held from December 7-8, 2011, where 350 CEOs from India are expected to participate, with a majority from the state," said Ghalib. The delegation also hoped the 26th Trade Expo Indonesia which will be held from October 19-23, 2011, will see participation from Gujarat. With trade between the two countries pegged at $13 billion the Indonesian delegation hoped for more investment from Gujarat-based companies apart from conglomerates like Adani Global, Reliance and Essar, who already have sizeable ventures in Indonesia.
After visiting IIM-A and Gujarat National Law University (GNLU), Indonesian embassy's Education Attache Son Kuswadi said that faculty training programmes in Indonesia will be formalized in the lines of these institutes in the near future. "There are only 109 Indonesian students studying in India when compared to 17,000 Indonesians studying in Australia," said Kuswadi.
