CII skill grooming centre inaugurated at Orissa's Balasore

Minister of Industries, Steel & Mines and Parliamentary Affairs Raghunath Mohanty inaugurated a skill centre of Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) here on Saturday. The centre would function from Modern Engineering & Management Studies at Banaparia near Kruruda here.
MLA Bhograi Ananat Dash, MLA, Remuna Sudarshan Jena, director of Industries Department KN Khatai, ADM Sribatsa Jena and president of Balasore Chamber of Industry and Commerce(BCIC) Himansu Das were present.
Ex-Chairman, CII-ER and Chairman, Education and Skill Development Sub-Committee of CII Aloke Mukherjea said that to know the potential of development and employability skill of the youth in the district, CII had undertaken a study in Balasore district. The CII's employability assessment report had emphasised on the requirement of more skilled/trained labourers in the district. The skill centre at Balasore was a part of the CII's 10-point agenda as submitted to the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
The centre aims at providing employable course module to underprivileged youth of the society. In consultation with Directorate of Technical Education & Training (DTET) and taking into account, the local demand, a few trades have been identified.
The centre would have two classrooms, one computer lab and one office room for administrative purposes. The classroom facilities can be availed from 1600-2000 hours everyday. Each module would consist of 120-150hours of classroom training and orientation programmes, informed Arindam Gupta, chairman North Odisha Zonal Council.
In the first year, 480 students shall be trained in four batches in different trades and more than 70 per cent of the students are expected to get employment. On success of the project, CII has ambitious plans to replicate it in various other locations of the State with the target to generate employment for 10,000 persons per year. The target beneficiaries would be unemployed youth, school dropouts and persons in search of sustainable livelihood. Preference shall be given to ladies and downtrodden people and selection shall be done through systematic screening process.
The programme is being supported by Balasore Alloys Ltd and Emami Paper Mills Ltd. There are many other industries which are also supportive to CII's noble initiative. To implement the programme, CII has identified three trainer organisations such as India Skills, NIIT and SSEPL. The trainer organisations would source the students, conduct the training programme and would provide placement to the pass-outs.
