Udyog Development Foundation, in association with Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC), is organising a one-day seminar on 'Policy needed – for the development of pharmaceutical sector in the State of Odisha’ in Bhubaneswar on August 6.
The main objectives of the seminar are to promote pharmaceutical industrial growth in the state of Odisha, improve the standards of pharmaceutical services and education and create better employment potential in pharmaceutical sector, said organising secretary Amitav J Choudhury. Utkal Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association is supporting the event to be addressed by a host of experts and officials from health department in the State and outside.
The State depends mostly on other states for its pharmaceutical supplies. The pharmaceutical sector cannot develop unless the pharmaceutical industries grow in the state. Unfortunately, the pharmaceutical industries did not grow in the State. There are several other issues faced by the pharmaceutical sector in Odisha regarding quality of pharmaceutical services, education etc. The reasons for underdevelopment of pharmaceutical industries need to be looked into and proper encouragement and opportunities are to be provided, he said in a statement.
Special Economic Zones (SEZs) have been identified in different states which boosted pharmaceutical industrial growth significantly. It is high time for the Government to encourage the entrepreneurs to establish pharmaceutical industries in the state of Odisha which will increase the employment opportunities for the students passing out from different pharmacy colleges of the state, strengthen pharmaceutical research and healthcare besides contributing for the economic development of the state, the statement said.
