Our aim is to revolutionize early childhood education by providing world-class curriculum, says Arun Arora, chairman, SERRA International preschools. Catering to pre-school students, it has partnered with Eton House, Singapore, to ensure quality. The curriculum is based on the UK Early Learning Goals, and inspired by inquiry-based learning and Reggio Emilia educational approach of Northern Italy, which involves parents and builds on the concept of teachers as learners. The parents role eventually mirrors on the child both at home and the classroom level. And thats why parents are welcome to take part in discussions and curriculum planning, says Monisha Pandit, head of training. The crux of the Reggio Emilia approach is on building a teachers long-term commitment towards enhancing the understanding of children. We give autonomy to the teacher, who becomes a skilled observer and implements a curriculum specific to a child's needs. When it comes to learning, it should not be limited to classrooms only. We create an environment that involves learning both in and out of classrooms, says Pandit.
