External Affairs minister S M Krishna will meet Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Monday with bilateral issues, the situation in Pakistan and Afghanistan and strengthening economic cooperation expected to be the focus of their talks. Krishna and Clinton are expected to discuss a wide
range of bilateral and regional issues including the situation in the region – Afghanistan and Pakistan – and the next month's India-US Education summit, which would be co-chaired by the Secretary of State and Human Resources Development Minister Kapil Sibal, official sources said.
The meeting will take place amid the diplomatic row between Pakistan and the US over alleged links between Pakistani spy agency ISI and the Haqqani terror network.
India has said it was good that the Obama administration recognised the links between the ISI and Haqqani network of Taliban.
"We have always been saying it. I am glad US finds it has also suffered under the ISI," Krishna said here yesterday.
"I think our stand has been vindicated," he said.
With a meeting between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and President Barack Obama not taking place on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly here, meeting between Krishna and Clinton was arranged.
Krishna, who arrived in New York on September 21 is expected to fly back to India on the 27th.
