AICTE approves 8 new engineering colleges, 2,340 more seats in Gujarat

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has given its approval for eight new engineering colleges across the state. The decision came after a meeting of AICTE members in Bhopal on Wednesday.
The technical body has approved 2,340 seats in these eight colleges, situated in various districts of the state.AICTE also approved the increased intake capacity of one college by 120 taking the total number of approved seats for engineering to 2,460. Till now, the total number of seats in engineering was 36,443 in Gujarat.
According to MN Patel, chairman of the Admission Committee for Professional Courses (ACPC), there are many other colleges which may get approval within a few days. "This is just the first phase of approval. There is a high possibility that AICTE will approve some more colleges in the second and third phases," said Patel. He also added that the increase in engineering seats will benefit the students, as they will have more choices during the admission process.
The eight colleges include Arredeka Institute of Technology in Khedbrahama, Sabarkantha, Vidhyadeep Institute in Olpad, Surat, Institute of Technology and Management in Paladi village of Vadodara, Arun Munchhala Engineering College in Daheli, Amreli, Marwadi Education Foundation in Gauridad, Rajkot, Hansaba College of Engineering in Patan and Leads Institute of Technology in Amod, Bharuch.
These seven colleges received 300 seats each in the diverse streams of engineering— civil, computer, electronics, mechanical and electrical engineering. Whereas, Shroff SR Rotary Institute in Valia, Bharuch received 240 seats.
Apart from these colleges, AICTE has increased the intake capacity of an existing college. Grow More Faculty of Engineering in Himmatnagar, Sabarkantha got an approval of 120 more seats in their college from this academic year of 2011-12.
For admissions in pharmacy, the ACPC chairman clarified that all the 35 colleges of pharmacy, which are yet to receive the approval from the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), must get it before 1st July. "If they fail to get the approval, their seats will not be considered during the admission process" said Patel.
