An Orissa High Court committee will make a fresh assessment of sanitation and patient care facilities in the three government medical colleges in July.
The government has conveyed to the three medical colleges that the HC advocate committee will visit the MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Berhampur on July 1 and VSS Medical College and Hospital, Burla on July 17 and 18. The letter issued by deputy secretary Rashid Khan on June 22 said the team will visit SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack on another convenient date.
The HC panel, led by amicus curiae Pravant Ranjan Dash, had expressed unhappiness over the facilities available in Burla, during their visit on June 18. The panel had highlighted lack of enough doctors and para-medical staff and lack of equipment for emergency care. The team had observed that there was just one neurosurgeon in the Burla hospital while the cardiology department lacked basic life-saving equipment. The team had pointed out lack of facility in the burn unit and inadequate number of beds in the dialysis unit.
