Govt to teachers' retirement age

The government will file a writ petition challenging the high court's directive to increase to 65 years the retirement age of lecturers and professors who are appointed on UGC scales.

Higher education minister V S Acharya on Thursday said the government will move the division bench with a writ petition challenging the single bench's directive.

In Karnataka, the retirement age of all state government employees has been fixed at 60. "Since lecturers and professors are also state government employees, their retirement age cannot be increased in isolation,'' he contendedd.

NEW CET DATES

The government has put off CET engineering counselling to July 7 because of the delay in getting All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) sanction for seat matrix in 30 to 35 colleges.
