HSC overhaul on the cards Minati Singha

The state government is contemplating an overhaul of the examination pattern in Class X board examination to make the process timely, simple and stress free. Taking a cue from the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) that conducts annual High School Certificate (HSC) examination had proposed to introduce grading system, on which the state government is yet to take any decision.
"The government had proposed to the board to bring about examination reforms. After several rounds of consultations the board submitted a proposal. After a thorough examination we will place it before the government for final approval," said school and mass education secretary Aparajita Sarangi. "We are also examining the procedures in other states before taking the final decision," she added.
"Along the lines of the CBSE system, we have prepared a proposal to implement grading system in Orissa. This will help in reducing stress among students. The proposal is pending with the state government," said BSE president Satyakam Mishra.
