Himachal Pradesh to provide IT education in all Schools and Colleges in the State says Chief Minister

Prem Kumar Dhumal, Chief Minister, raised the issue of providing broadband and Internet facilities in all the degree colleges and schools of the State with Shri Gurudas Kamat, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Communications and Information Technology, who called on him at his official residence, Oakover, here today.
Chief Minister said that the State Government had also raised the issue with the Government of India for providing one computer each to the students of all the government educational institutions of the State so that they could keep pace with advance information technology. He said that broadband and internet facilities to the students would enable them to excel themselves in technological advancement in the education sector. He informed the Union Minister that the State Government was according priority to the education sector and IT courses had been introduced in a number of educational institutions. He urged the Union Minister of State to also provide advanced components of computer hardware free of cost or on subsidized rates to the State Government so that the same were provided to the students to pursue their IT education.
Prof. Dhumal also demanded providing enhanced remunerations to the Special Protection Officers (SPOs) who had been rendering yeoman service on the borders. He said that possibilities also needed to be explored to ensure a minimum of daily wages as applicable under MNREGA. He said that the State Government had engaged services of the SPOs in the border area of district Chamba and their services were commendable in maintenance of the law and order protecting life and property of the people residing on the inter-state border.
Chief Minister underlined the need for better and efficient services by BSNL in the state. He said that the areas where the mobile signal was weak and needs improvement. He also assured of all assistance from the State Government to the BSNL authorities.
Shri Gurudas Kamat thanked the Chief Minister for his support to the BSNL and other Central Government offices located in the State. He congratulated the Chief Minister for having record number of mobile connections in the state in proportion to the population. He requested the Chief Minister to provide appropriate location for raising a mobile tower between Raj Bhawan and Oakover where complaints of weak signal were being reported. He also assured Chief Minister that all possible help would be extended to the State Government in carrying forward with its IT education facilities.
Dr. Arun Sharma, Principal Private Secretary to the Chief Minister was also present in the meeting.
