MCI approves 300 more MBBS seats in state

Medical education in the state will get a further boost with the Medical Council of India (MCI) giving a formal approval to the Sola Medical College in Ahmedabad to run MBBS course. MCI has allotted 300 additional MBBS seats - 150 in Sola and 150 in the Adani Institute of Medical Sciences at Bhuj.
So far, there were only 1,955 medical seats in 13 colleges in the state - six government and seven self-financed colleges.
BJ Medical College Dean and in-charge of the Admission Committee for Professional Medical Educational Courses (ACPMEC) Dr Bharat Shah said the move will save the state a lot of money as candidates unable to secure admission in medical courses here often went to other states, particularly south India.
According to sources, a student has to spend not less than Rs 50 lakh to complete his/her medical education in any self-financed institute in south India.
