Online engineering admissions begin, seats may go up by 10,000

With the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) set to release the list of new colleges and courses for this year by the month-end, the number of engineering seats may increase by 10,000, said SK Mahajan, director in charge, Directorate of Technical Education (DTE).
As per the DTE, student intake capacity (according to seats available last year) is 1,14,268 for engineering and 9,170 for pharmacy colleges. Starting this year, the centralised admission process for autonomous institutes (CAPAI) and the centralised admission process (CAP) for non-autonomous institutes in engineering studies will be executed under the supervision of the DTE.
The online admission process for engineering and pharmacy began on Tuesday. Polytechnic admissions begin tomorrow. There are around 141 Application Receipt Centres (ARC) across the state. For engineering, there 113 ARCs; 15 in Pune. For pharmacy, there are seven ARCs in Pune. For polytechnic, students in the open category need to score 50 per cent while OBC students need to score 45 per cent.
