Slovenian PM on four-day India visit

Seeking to forge closer economic relations, Slovenian Prime Minister Borut Pahor arrived on a first ever official visit to India. Pahor began his visit in Mumbai where he met Maharashtra Governor K Shankarnarayanan and offered his respects at the memorial to the victims of 21/11 terror attacks. The visiting dignitary will be accorded a ceremonial welcome in the forecourt of the Rashtrapati Bhawan tomorrow following which he will call on President Pratibha Patil. Pahor will hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during which the two leaders are expected to discuss ways to strengthen relations in the areas of trade and economy, health and higher education. In the last five years, the bilateral trade between India and Slovenia has quadrupled to 245 million euros and India looks forward to access central and south east European markets through the European nation. "Slovenia sees India as a potential source of investment," External Affairs Ministry spokesman Vishnu Prakash said here. He said there was a similarity in the world outlook of India and Slovenia with the European nation backing New Delhi's aspirations with regard to the UN Security Council. After his meetings in Delhi, Pahor will travel to Agra and then to Bangalore where he will visit the the Indian Institute of Science, Infosys, Biocon and Narayana Hrudayalaya. Slovenia, a part of the erstwhile Yugoslavia, proclaimed Independence in 1991 and was recognised by India in May 1992.PTI SKU
