TNN(02sues.tim)More trouble in store for SUES

In what could further jeopardise the fate of the Sultan ul-Uloom Education Society (SUES), the All  Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has now sought an explanation from the society for unlawfully running its institutes without its approval. In a strongly-worded letter dated May 31,  stated that it has not issued approval to any of its colleges (for 2010-11) due to pending court cases and should be furnished with an immediate explanation regarding this malpractice. The letter was sent by the AICTE regional office in and addressed to Zafar Javed, vice-chairman of SUES.

As per AICTE norms, institutions should own the land they function from but the  campus in Banjara Hills has been at the centre of a prolonged battle with the college management and some kin of the Nizams claiming its ownership.

While AICTE has not yet decided its future course of action in this matter, officials say that the college might be denied approval even for the forthcoming academic year (2011-12), in view of this irregularity. "We have sought an explanation from the management on this issue and even made five visits to its campus in Banjara Hills. Whether it should be given approval for the next year is being discussed by our officials in the headquarters and we shall come out with a decision soon," said R K Gangal, director and regional officer, AICTE.

But despite the crackdown by the regulatory body, sources allege that management seats in the M J College of Engineering (under SUES) for 2011-12 has already been filled. In fact, they claim that the management has collected anywhere between Rs 8-10 lakh per candidate for this four-year programme. "Civil, mechanical, electronics and other such in-demand streams are already full," said a source alleging that the society was indulging in illegal practices even there.

SUES officials predictably deny this claim. When contacted, Zafar Javed maintained that the college had not initiated any admission process for the new academic year. He even insisted that the education society was in the possession of an approval letter from AICTE for the year 2010-11. "I have a letter signed by the Advisor of AICTE. I also have an affiliation letter from the Osmania University. I can do nothing if people do not wish to believe any of it," the vice-chairman of SUES said.
