TVS ties up with Ross School for executive education programme

TVS-Logistics (TVS-L), a part of TVS Group , has tied up with Michigan's Ross School of Business to conduct a three-year executive education programme, in an attempt to prepare a set of senior executives to meet a talent shortage head-on.

The course aims to fill the knowledge gap in the applied supply chain area, and the first batch will cover 30 executives. The Indian logistics industry is faced with 25% attrition, with 10% at the executive level.

"The elite general management programme is aimed at preparing the leadership pipeline for the future. It will help us retain talent," says TVS-L MD, R Dinesh, adding the company is investing Rs 8 crore towards the programme.

TVS-L plans to cover more executives under the programme as part of the effort to make it a global company with a turnover of $1 billion by 2015, says Dinesh. At the end of the programme, the compensation level of senior executives is expected to go up by three to four times, he adds.

Last year alone, TVS-L recruited 1,700 people through a job fair conducted by the Tamil Nadu government, taking its workforce to 7,000. Of this, 800 are executives. It wants to take 10% to 15% of them into the 'excellent' category through this executive education programme and special HR initiatives.

The 90-year-old Ross school focuses on executive education and leadership excellence programmes and has a tie-up with major corporates.

The tie-up with TVS-L is different from other collaborations, because it is a customised executive education programme spread out over three years, says MP Narayanan, professor of finance, Ross School of Business and faculty director of the TVS general management programme.

The executives will be asked to select projects of their choice and immediately apply the concepts learnt in the classroom to resolve the problems and issues relevant to the company.
