Gujarat Council On Science & Technology organizing National Rural IT Quiz 2011

The National Rural IT Quiz, an initiative and encouraging step for the students of rural areas, to increase the awareness about Information Technology and the possibilities in the field, is all set to have its State Level Regional Quiz competition at Vadodara on 8th September 2011. To participate in the state level competitions, the school students have to be selected through the district level completions which will be organised on 30th August 2011.
The National Rural IT Quiz is a programme being conceptualized and organised by the Dept of IT, BT and Science and Technology, Government of Karnataka in association with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). The winners will be awarded with cash prize along with exciting gadgets.
The Rural IT Quiz, which had a successful run in Karnataka for over a decade, is now being extended to Gujarat, Orissa, Jammu and Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh and all the north eastern states.
For Gujarat State, the district level quiz competition will be organised on 30th August 2011 and the regional rounds of the program will be held on 8th September 2011 at Vadodara.
Gujarat Council on Science & Technology (GUJCOST), working under the aegis of the Department of Science & Technology, Government of Gujarat is coordinating the programme through its Community Science Centre network across the state.
Entry and Eligibility
There is no entry or registration fee. Students from 8th to 12th Std. are eligible to participate. Multiple teams per school (2 members per team) will be allowed to participate. Students of Schools which are situated in the City Corporation limits are not eligible to participate in the quiz.
Schedule and Guidelines for Gujarat Students:
Round 1: School Level / District Level Quiz on 30th August 2011 (Tuesday):
The School Level / District Level Quiz competition to be organized by the GUJCOST through its Community Science Centers (CSC) in each of the districts. The CSCs will select 5 Best Teams (2 members per team) with a test at selective centres in the district.
The Community Science Centers in association with schools should send the names of the selected 5 teams on 31st August, 2011.
Round 2: Regional Level Quiz Competition on 8th September 2011
Top 10 teams from each district of Gujarat will take part in the Regional Level Competition to be held at Patel Party Hall, Khanderao Market, Vadodara on 8th September 2011 between 10.30 am to 2.00 pm. Students from each school should be accompanied by a teacher or a parent At the Regional level, students will undergo a written preliminary round and the top six teams will qualify for the Regional Finals which will be conducted on the same day.The Winner of the Regional round will receive a cash prize of Rs 10,000/- and the Runners-up will receive Rs 7000/- and both the team will be qualified for the National Finals to be conducted in Bangalore on 19th October 2011. All participants at the Regional level will receive certificates.
Round 3: National Level Finals: 19thOctober 2011,Bengaluru
The Regional Winners from Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Rajasthan and Karnataka will be invited to participate in the Rural IT Quiz National Finals at Bangalore on 19th October 2011. This has been organized as a part of the Asia's premier ICT event "BangaloreIT.biz 2010" organized by Dept of IT, BT and Science and Technology, Government of Karnataka.
To and fro air travel and accommodation for the students and one teacher will be provided by TCS for the National Finals at Bangalore.The winning team will emerge as the National Rural IT Quiz Champion.

Subject:
• The quiz will mainly focus on application of Technology across various sectors and aspects such as: the technology environment, the business, its people, new trends, legends etc.
• World of internet, and unique websites, IT buzzwords and acronyms.
• Personalia - International, national and communications companies( eg: Microsoft, TCS, IBM, Dell, Lenovo, Google, Amazon, etc) 
• Software products, companies and brands. History of IT and the humorous side of IT.
• Areas where IT has made an impact - education, entertainment, books, multimedia, music, movies, internet, banking, advertising, sports, gaming, social networking, cell phones, etc. 
•  There will be attractive prizes for all finalists at the Regional level and National level, besides audience prizes. National Winners – Rs 75,000/- & Runners-up Rs 40,000/-.
