The Kalinga Stadium ground in the state capital Bhubaneswar witnessed a unique battle on the morning of August 21, 2011 with the Officers’ team (consisting of IAS, IPS and IFS officers) trouncing the Leaders’ team (consisting of MLAs) in the finale of the Festival Football Tournament organized by Tata Steel.
Strengthening the bond of friendship between legislators, administrators, media and corporate houses, the match generated a lot of enthusiasm and fun. Mr Badri Narayan Patro, Hon’ble minister of higher education, sports and youth services inaugurated the match.
Mr. Manoj Ahuja, tough defender Mr Madhu Sudan Padhi, Mr Saswat Mishra, Mr Suresh Chandra Mohapatra and top cop Mr Sanjeev Marik played well to snatch a victory from the leaders. The Officers’ team won the match with 2 goals to 1 in the final.
The Leaders’ team was led by Arun Sahu, the Nayagarh MLA and the Officers’ brigade was led by Mr S P Nanda, member Borad of Revenue. While the media team was led by Mr. Niranjan Reddy, the Tata Steel team was led by Mr D B Sundara Ramam, GM (OMQ).
Earlier, the Leaders team defeated Media team and Officers Team defeated Tata Steel team in a tie breaker.
Mr Hridayeshwar Jha, VP (Odisha project) of Tata Steel, state agriculture minister Mr Pradip Maharatahi, rural development and law minister Mr Bikram Keshari Arukh gave away the prizes. Mr Rajesh Chintak, Chief Resident Executive, Tata Steel and Mohit Das, Head, Corporate Affairs and Communications, Tata Steel (Odisha) were present on this occasion.
1. Best goalkeeper: Mr Sudipta Choudhury, Tata Steel team
2. Best Forward: Mr Debendra Kanhar, Leader’s team
3. Best Half: Mr Arun Sahoo
4. Best Defence: Mr S K Samal (Officer’s Team)
