Finance Minister Prafulla Chandra Ghadei on Monday called upon the youth to come to the forefront in steering the State on the path of progress and prosperity.
Hoisting the tricolour on the occasion of the 65th Independence Day at Barabati Stadium here, Ghadei said that the State had made great strides in the development in the last 13 years. From one of the poorest states, Orissa has become one of the most progressive regions. There has been tremendous economic development at a rate which is higher than that of the nation. There has been growth in all sectors. Agriculture, industrialisation, education, health and other social parameters have witnessed an accelerated growth, he said.
He said the youth were the pall-bearers of the future. The Government was committed to create opportunities for them on every front. While the industrialisation process has brought employment opportunities, avenues were being created for facilitating self-employment and building entrepreneurship among the youth.
Agriculture was being accorded optimum priority by the Government and the results were showing. The State has been feted by the Prime Minister for achieving the highest growth in agriculture produce in the country, the Minister said.
He gave away awards and prizes to prominent personalities, officers and winners of competitions organised on the occasion.
