Clarion cry for child education

Child Rights and You (CRY)launched a campaign that demands all forms of child labour across all sectors should be completely prohibited by the government .

The NGOs submitted their demands to the Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR). The campaign which was launched at Delhi Haat on Sunday evening attracted a crowd of about hundred on lookers and volunteers .

Yogita Verma , director , CRY, said , "Official figures put the number of child labourers in at 9 million , a number which is a gross under estimation . We demand inclusion of all children between 15-18 years be covered under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, as one of the necessary measures towards abolishing child labour ." The volunteers also performed two street plays which portrayed the lives of child labourers in order to sensitize people about the issue .

Shashank Shekhar ,  member , addressed demandsby CRY volunteers ."They demandedthe age limit for a child labourers should be increased from 14 to 18 years and that child labour should be banned across all industrial sectors . As of now 16 occupations and 65 processes come under the banned category . We have received their demands and willtakeup the matter withthe government ,"said Shekhar .
