Dubai teachers to help peers in India's villages

A group of 60 Dubai teachers will help improve the spoken English language skills of teachers in remote Indian villages this summer.
The teachers, all of whom are from various Gems-run schools, have volunteered to be part of the initiative with ‘Pratham', a non-government organisation in India working to provide quality education to underprivileged children.
"In India, one of the key problems in teaching is the availability of English teachers in remote areas, small towns and metro-area slums. We can make a difference to this situation by helping volunteer teachers in India practice their English skills," Dr Madhav Chavan, president and CEO of Pratham, said.
The teachers will be provided with pre-paid SIM cards that they can use to call the Pratham volunteer teachers. Some teachers have pledged 15 days for the mission while some others have committed 30 days.
