Verdict reserved on reservation for locals in NLSIU

A division bench of the high court headed by Justice Manjula Chellur on Friday reserved its verdict on a PIL seeking reservation of seats for students belonging to Karnataka at the prestigious (NLSIU), . 

The PIL is filed by city advocate B Sri Kumara. "Law universities existing all over the country are providing reservation for locals. This percentage is up to 50% seats, like in Bhopal. But at NLSIU (Bangalore), no such percentage is provided for local students," the petitioner has complained. 

NLSIU had stated that no domicile reservation was possible as it was a national level institution which came into existence to promote and improve the standard of legal education following an initiative from . 

"In NLSIU, 12 seats are reserved for SC, 6 for ST and 2 for persons with disabilities out of the 80 seats. Five seats are reserved for foreign nationals," V Nagaraj, registrar of NLSUI, stated in his affidavit. 
Hearing on complex adjourned. 

The high court on Friday adjourned the hearing of a petition filed by 26 residents of Malleswaram 15 cross area complaining about illegal construction of a multi-storey commercial building. 

Justice S  asked the petitioners to serve a copy on the counsel representing  and fixed Monday as the next hearing date. 

The petitioners are objecting to the June 7 order of the chief engineer (west) of BBMP holding that the building plan sanctioned by the assistant director (planning cell) in favour of Msrs Kamini Srinivasan Krupad permitting construction of a multi-storeyed commercial complex as proper, and in compliance with zonal regulations under revised master plan 2015.
