Girls education drive begins with Narendra Modi’s balancing act in Gujarat

Chief minister Narendra Modi might be considered a political heavyweight, but, using books, his weight was estimated to be worth Rs51,000. In an interesting celebration, at the launch of the 9th annual Girl’s Education and School Enrolment drive in the state, villagers ofVaral in Sihor taluka of Bhavnagar district balanced the chief minister with 351 books. These books were then donated to the village school library on Thursday.
Modi launched the annual campaign from the villages in Sihor taluka. He remained present in the primary schools and balwadis (crèches) at Varal, Tana and Jambala villages.
He distributed books, kits and toys to the tiny tots to increase their interest in schools. He appealed to the people to join the government’s efforts in freeing the state from these two blots, which continue even after 62 years of Independence.
He cited the various celebrations of the state government, like Krishi Mahotsav, Garib Kalyan Mela among others, saying that such events are bringing the state secretariat closer to the villages.
However, he did not miss the chance to attack the Union government. Modi asked the people not to care a hoot about the Centre’s relentless attempts to derail Gujarat’s development.
He cited instances of Centre abruptly stopping a scheme for physically challenged teachers, pushing 1,210 of them to the verge of termination and the introduction of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, but hardly paid any funds to Gujarat for it. State health minister, Jaynarayan Vyas was present in Manipur village, located on the outskirts of Ahmedabad city in Sanand taluka.
