Tata Group chairman Ratan Tata on Friday launched Sri Sathya Sai Vidya Vahini programme of the Sathya Sai Baba Central Trust at Puttaparthi in Andhra Pradesh.
He participated in the launch programme held at Prashanti Nilayam, the headquarters of Sathya Sai Baba's empire, in Anantapur district. He also prayed at the samadhi of the spiritual guru, who died two months ago.
The Tata Group is providing funds for Vidya Vahini, which is aimed at imparting quality education with the help of computers and advanced teaching equipment. The programme is being implemented in 99 schools in India and one school each in 33 countries.
All the institutes are run by the Sathya Sai Baba Trust.
(TCS) has developed the software for Vidya Vahini, a pet project of the late guru. Ratan Tata visited Puttaparthi in November last year to personally hand over the software to Sathya Sai Baba on the occasion of his 85th birthday.
The Baba's personal caregiver Satyajit briefed Ratan Tata of the activities of various educational institutions run by the trust. The industrialist also held talks with members of the trust, who briefed him about the plans to carry on the service and charity works launched by Sathya sai Baba.
