Education minister Bratya Basu on Monday announced setting up of a committee to conduct surprise inspections to check infrastructure and other facilities in engineering colleges and departments in universities. The committee will give its report at regular intervals.
It will check if the colleges fulfill the parameters set by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The five-member committee comprises professors and senior officials of the higher education and technical department. tnn "Till BESU is upgraded to the status of the Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST), it will also be within the jurisdiction of the committee," confirmed an official.
