Repro acquires India’s printing operations of Macmillan Publishers India Ltd

Repro, the end–to–end education content delivery solutions provider in print and digital media for domestic and international customers, Friday announced the acquisition of the India printing operations of Macmillan Publishers India Ltd. (MPIL), the subsidiary of renowned UK-based publisher.

The deal to be inked by two entities also entails servicing the print requirements of MPIL in India. Under the arrangement MPIL will outsource the printing of their education books to Repro, translating into a business of over Rs.250 crore over the next 5 years for Repro over this period. 

The acquisition of this printing operation in Chennai would strengthen Repro’s foothold into the South Indian market, bringing it closer to its clientele.

Established in 1892, MPIL is one of the largest educational books publishers in India. Its parent company Macmillan Ltd. UK is among the largest and best-known publishers in the world. Since over 100 years, MPIL is focused on publishing innovative, need-based, stimulating and enlightening books for Indian Education sector.

It has over 3,000 titles and relationships with over 20,000 schools all over India. MPIL’s printing press in Chennai has deliverable capacity of about 6 million books annually.

With over 20 years of experience in this sector, Repro offers solutions to most of the large global education publisher’s worldwide. With an installed production capacity of over one million books per day, Repro is one of the largest exporters of education books having a long-standing relationship with Macmillan worldwide and has been servicing its requirements of education books in India, Africa and UK. 

Mr. Pramod Khera, Executive Director of Repro India Limited noted that with this alliance, the relationship between Repro and MPIL will be further strengthened and will position Repro as a crucial global partner for Macmillan. This should also throw–up opportunities for Repro to partner with Macmillan globally, said Khera.

Mr. Rajiv Beri, MD at Macmillan Publishers India Ltd commented that Printing is not the company’s core activity, as it now seeks to focus on publishing growth. This is a strategic decision which will further consolidate Macmillan’s investments and energies in development and delivery of quality, need based content, said Beri.
