Orissa Government to develop well performing colleges to centers of excellence


Bhubaneswar:Orissa govt. has decided to develop all high performing colleges in to centers of excellence.  This was advised Chief Secretary Bijay Kumar Patnaik  while presiding over a high level meeting held in the secretariat conference hall today. Chief Secretary has advised the Secretary Higher Education to identify well performing premier colleges from different parts of the State and asses their requirement to develop them to centers of excellence.
Since some world class universities have come up in the state, added Sri Patnaik, we need to train of our students to avail the opportunities in those institutes.
The colleges so identified will be provided input both in terms of infrastructure and quality education. The Secretary Higher Education has been advised to pull-in best teaching faculties to theses institutions and develop high standard library as well as laboratory facilities.
The issue of allotment of land to different educational institutions was also discussed in the meeting. It was decided that Govt would promote those institutions who add standards of international excellence and carter to requirement of higher education of our State.
A sub-committee will be constituted under the chairmanship of Secretary Higher Education examine the credibility of proposed institutions. The proposals will be considered as per their credibility. The committee will comprise of higher officials from Education, Health, Industry and Agriculture Departments. However, the committee has been empowered to seek the opinion of experts or co-opt some eminent member as and when necessity arises. In recent days, well known institutions like Sri Sri University, Jagadguru Krupalu University, Maa Amrita Viswavidyapitham University and University of Corporate Excellence have submitted their proposals for setting up international standard universities in the state.
The Principal Secretary Finance Jugal Kishore Mohapatra, Secretary Revenue & Disaster Management R.K.Sharma, Secretary High Education, Dr. Chandra Shekhar Kumar, Special Secretary General Administration Sri Vijaya Arora participated in discussions.
