Indian equities gained further momentum on sustained buying seen across board on Dhanteras. At 12.04 p.m., the Sensex was trading up 300.06 points or 1.79% at 17,085.70 with 29 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 90.30 points or 1.79% at 5,140.25 with 48 components gaining.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 225.42 points or 1.34% at 17,011.06, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a rise of 64.75 points or 1.28%, at 5,114.70.
Sensex Movers
I C I C I Bank contributed rise of 34.47 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Infosys (26.35 points), Reliance Industries (26.08 points), Tata Consultancy Services (25.12 points) and I T C (23.24 points).
However, Larsen & Toubro contributed fall of 7.35 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Reliance Communications (1.04 points), ACC (1.68 points), Jaiprakash Associates (2.54 points) and D L F (2.85 points).
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Tata Motors (4.58%), Sterlite Industries (India) (3.65%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (3.47%), Bajaj Auto (3.31%), Tata ConsultancyServices (3.30%), and Hindustan Unilever (3.27%).
On the other hand, Larsen & Toubro (0.81%) is the only loser in the Sensex pack.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps underperformed their larger counterparts gaining 0.69% and 0.57% respectively.
The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were Aban Offshore (1.76%), A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (1.52%), A B G Shipyard (1.18%), Alfa-Laval (India) (0.94%) and CORE Education and Technologies (0.48%).
The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were Aanjaneya Lifecare (8.45%), A B G Infralogistics (4.95%), INEOS ABS (India) (3.35%), Trident (2.36%) and Adhunik Metaliks (2.06%).
The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were Aban Offshore (1.76%), A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (1.52%), A B G Shipyard (1.18%), Alfa-Laval (India) (0.94%) and CORE Education and Technologies (0.48%).

Sectors in Limelight
The Auto index was at 9,048.14, up by 199.97 points or by 2.26%. The major gainers were Bajaj Auto (3.31%), Ashok Leyland (1.64%), Hero Motocorp (1.41%), Apollo Tyres (1.11%) and Exide Industries (0.21%).
The Realty index was at 1,811.89, up by 39.35 points or by 2.22%. The major gainers were D B Realty (19.98%), D L F (2.42%), Housing Development and Infrastructure (2.36%), Indiabulls Real Estate (1.91%) and Anant Raj Industries (0.5%).
The Metal index was at 11,328.01, up by 227.82 points or by 2.05%. The major gainers were Hindalco Industries (2.67%), Jindal Steel & Power (1.78%), Hindustan Zinc (1.67%), Bhushan Steel (1.1%) and Coal India (0.24%).
The IT index was at 5,638.17, up by 112.53 points or by 2.04%. The major gainers were H C L Technologies (2.85%),Infosys (1.6%), Mphasis (1.3%), CORE Education and Technologies (0.48%) and Oracle Financial Services Software(0.29%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was positive with 1,473 advances against 979 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
M and B Switchgears topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 568.46 million. It was followed by Larsen & Toubro (Rs. 416.82 million), State Bank Of India (Rs. 267.22 million) and JSW Steel (Rs. 222.30 million).
The volume chart was led by Vaswani Industries with trades of over 7.41 million shares. It was followed by Cals Refineries (4.92 million), Birla Power Solutions (1.84 million) and M and B Switchgears (1.64 million).
