India picks up six awards at Seatrade Event in Dubai

When the annual Seatrade Middle East & Indian Subcontinent Awards were presented at a gala function early last week in Dubai, Shipping Corporation of India, country's largest shipping company walked away with three awards, including the one for corporate social responsibility. The company also won the education & training award while its CMD Sabyasachi Hajara was bestowed the Seatrade Outstanding Achievement Award.

The awards were judged by a 12-strong panel of international judges, led by Rear Admiral Efthimios Mitropoulos, secretary general of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).

The other Indian entities that won awards are: Nhava Sheva International Container Terminal for environment protection, General Insurance Corporation (GIC RE) for marine insurance and Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (India) got the ship manager award. The event also featured three special awards: Seatrade Young Person of the Year was awarded to Dr Priyath Bandu Wickrama, chairman, Sri Lanka Ports Authority.

Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, chairman, Abu Dhabi Ports Company and CEO, Masdar, was announced Seatrade Personality of The Year. Jorn Hinge, president and CEO, United Arab Shipping Company(SAG) was honoured with the Seatrade Lifetime
