Orissa CM launches free cycle scheme for school kids

Bhubaneswar:Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik launches free cycle scheme for school kids at the Gajapati Stadium at Parlakhemundi on Friday.

Addressing the people on the occasion, chief minister said that the programme would benefit especially the scheduled caste and scheduled tribe girl students in tribal dominated districts. Bi-cycles would be provided for the students in government as well as government aided schools. Naveen said that over one lakh girl students will be covered under the programme. Cycles would be distributed among 12, 000 boys too, he added. 

He distributed Account Payee cheques to the students. He said the students would receive the cost of a cycle directly from the school managing committee under direct supervision of the headmaster. Patnaik said the Government had an outlay of Rs 75.40 crore for the current year under the scheme. 

Present among others on the podium were Berhampur MP Siddhant Mohapatra, Parla MLA K Narayan Rao, Mass Education Secretary Aparajita Sarangi, Director Srikant Prusty, Gajapati Collector Rabindra Pratap Singh and DRDA Project Director Jamini Sarangi.
