Educomp tie-up for Great Lakes pan India presence, says Dean

Great Lakes Institute of Management (Great Lakes) had announced its strategic partnership with Educomp Solutions, a leader in India in the e-Education industry, on May 6, 2011. The partnership will help Great Lakes expand its presence across India with an investment of about Rs. 150 crores over the next five years, and is expected to substantially expand the reach of management education it has been offering at its campus in Chennai. Post partnership with Educomp, Great Lakes will have campuses in Delhi NCR, Mumbai and a location yet to be finalized in Eastern India.

As part of this expansion, Great Lakes has launched its Delhi NCR campus in Gurgaon in collaboration with the Institute of Energy Management of Research (IEMR). IEMR would now be Great Lakes Institute of Energy Management and Research (GLIEMR).

MBAUniverse.com spoke to Dr. Bala V. Balachandran, Founder and Dean, Great Lakes Institute of Management to know how actually the tie up will benefit GLIM.

Explaining the different aspects of the tie up Dr. Balachandran said, “Let me clarify the exact situation. Great lakes has carved a niche for itself as one of the premier B-schools in the country since its inception in 2004. However, we are in Chennai and as such we are able to take in only a limited number of students year on year. Given this scenario coupled with the vision of Great Lakes, it was decided that a strategic partnership would be essential whereby the Great Lakes education experience may be propagated to a larger target base, pan–India (for now).”

Further shedding light on the details of the tie up Dr. Balachandran said, “This overall objective led us to a tie-up with Beacon, which is the not-for-profit arm of Educomp Solutions, a leader in India in the e-Education industry. This in turn has automatically resulted in a Great Lakes presence in the NCR, through the IEMR. Great Lakes in association with IEMR will deliver a new Energy Management Executive MBA program.”

Indicating his bigger plans for offering e-Learning MBA programs, Dr. Balachandran said, “The other benefits accruing to the aspirant community is that Great Lakes will come closer to their homes in more ways than one. The Pan-India presence is a step in that direction and this will be aided by the e-Learning expertise of Educomp, which will bring knowledge to the aspirant’s doorstep and make it affordable to many, especially those who cannot afford to go to a metro city for Education."

A detailed interview with Dr. Bala V. Balachandran, Founder and Dean, Great Lakes Institute of Management will be published soon. Stay tuned to MBAUniverse.com.
