Folk artistes to promote welfare schemes

All the official advertisements relating to the developmental and welfare schemes and having public importance would be done in principle involving the folk art and artistes of the State.
�This was announced by Tourism and Culture Minister Prafulla Samal following a high-level meeting on Friday on revival of the dying folk culture.
�Stating that Orissa has around 320 unique art traditions, he said that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had directed to identify the folk artistes across the State. Kala Sangathans would be constituted at district level under the chairmanship of the collectors concerned to identify the folk artistes, he said and added that Chief Minister had stressed that efforts should be made at the official level to ensure that artistes get a chance to earn their livelihood through their art forms.
�Samal said the Chief Minister has also directed the Orissa Sangeet Natak Akademi to prepare a data base of the performing artistes and the groups involved in the perpetuating the dying folk arts and recommend the State Government for provision of pension to indigent artistes. Sources said this year� the State Government has decided to enhance indigent artiste pension from ` 1,500 to ` 3,000.
�In April this year, the Chief Minister had announced formation of the district and block-level societies of arts and culture - Zilla Kala Samskruti Sangha and Block Kala Samskruti Sangha’ - that would help folk artistes earn livelihood through their performances. “Under the ICE (Information-Education-Communication) programmes being implemented across the State to make people aware of the development programmes, services of the folk artistes shall be utilised that would provide them livelihood while providing patronage to the folk arts,” said Secretary of Culture Department Ashok Kumar Tripathy.
� “This is the first of its kind scheme for the promotion and preservation of dying art forms. More than a lakh artistes will benefit from the scheme,” Tripathy added.
