Gujarat now has more medical seats

Medical Council of India (MCI) has lifted ban on two medical institutes in the state - Sola Medical College in Sola Civil Hospital and Gujarat Adani Institute of Medical Sciences. This development is set to add 300 medical seats in Gujarat.
The Sola Medical College is promoted by the state government through Gujarat Medical Education and Research Society, Ahmedabad. However, the college couldn't start last year due to non-compliance with the several requirements for medical colleges prescribed by MCI. The ban on Gujarat Adani Institute of Medical Sciences, Bhuj was also lifted. "It was put under 'No Admission Zone' on temporary basis. The college can now give admission to 150 students for the first year MBBS programme from this year," said state health minister Jaynarayan Vyas on Thursday. Moreover, 50 seats were added to the medical municipal college run by Surat Municipal Corporation, increasing the tally of seats to 150.
However, another medical college at Gotri in Vadodara which was banned along with Sola Medical College last year is yet to receive clearance from MCI.
Besides the medical college in Gotri, two more colleges were in the race to receive MCI clearance, but eventually they failed to acquire permission. These colleges include one in Valsad and on in Patan.
Before the announcement, total number of medical seats across Gujarat was 1905. After the addition of 150 seats, the number has reached to 2055.
