A movement to educate all

It's a movement against commercialization of education. In an appeal to include corruption in the education sector under Lokpal Bill's ambit,  on Monday initiated the Students for .

"The campaign is to mobilize public support for reforms in the country's educational policy," said , founder-president.

The appeal states that a large section of population is not getting access to quality education due to escalating costs. "The education sector touches more than 300 million students and 6.5 million teachers. Besides, more than 50 per cent of the population is below the age group of 25 years," the appeal said.

"The  Convention on Corruption has clearly expressed the need to bring the private sector under the ambit of corruption laws. We feel the fight against corruption would be incomplete without taking into consideration the corruption resulting because of extreme commercialization in the education system," the appeal said.

Surya said: "Though there have been numerous legislations against malpractices in the education sector, they have remained on paper. The amount of black money in the education sector has been growing and this is an area of concern."
