Parents worried over AICTE notices

N Sashibhushan, a private employee, was waiting anxiously in front of the All India Council for Technical Education office at Masab Tank to meet officials and find out the list of genuine colleges in the city. However, he had to return home without any satisfactory information.
The AICTE recently put on hold approvals of prominent engineering colleges. According to official sources, the council stopped admissions in the Chaitanya Bharathi Institute of Technology (CBIT), Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Technology (MGIT) and Muffakham Jah College of Engineering and Technology and some other colleges, as they failed to provide proper details of their admission process, curricula and other facilities.
As the news came to light on on Monday, many parents gathered in front of the city office of AICTE to know the latest details. AICTE officials said any institution offering technical programmes without approval or functioning from a temporary location will be declared as ‘unapproved’ by the council. The body had issued show-cause notices to various prominent colleges in April, as they failed to comply with AICTE norms.
AICTE also issued notices to Muffakham Jah College of Engineering and Technology as the college is in a property dispute. The property was bought in 1980 from Prince Moazzam Jah Trust but some trust members are trying to get back the land.
AICTE has reportedly announced a list of 52 unapproved institutions including the Indian School of Business, Gachibowli, Sujana School of Business, Madhapur, Roots Business School, Somajiguda and Jain Business School.
