The PGIMER in Chandigarh has added yet another feather in its cap. The premier institution is among the three selected for mentoring the upcoming national medical institutes similar to All India Institute of Medical Sciences(AIIMS), New Delhi.
The other two institutes selected to mentor the currently under construction institutes are AIIMS, New Delhi and Jawahar Lal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Puducherry.
The PGI will mentor the medical institutes coming up in Rishikesh and Jodhpur. The other two institutions will provide guidance to the new institutes coming up in Patna, Bhubaneswar, Bhopal and Raipur.
The PGI, Chandigarh will mentor the new institutes in terms of selecting faculty and setting up the necessary infrastructure besides helping them with building requirements.
As per plans now, the six institutes which were announced almost three years ago will start functioning in the next academic session. These institutes will begin with MBBS courses.
